Terrain/Distance: Paddling up to 1 mile in a flatwater environment with a zero entry sand beach. Steep hill to access the beach.
Prerequisite: Learn-It: Kayaking and/or basic kayaking skills.
Do you want to refine a paddling technique or learn a new way to reenter your kayak? Maybe you’d like to receive some feedback on a paddle stroke that you’ve practiced or try your skills in a whitewater or sea kayak? The skills session program is an opportunity to develop kayaking skills like draws, sweeps, braces, and rescues under the guidance of an American Canoe Association (ACA) kayaking instructor. The entire program will be spent outside, so all guests should come dressed to paddle. Bring a towel and extra set of clothes. Dry bags or Ziplock bags work well for items you choose to bring on the water with you; Cleveland Metroparks is not responsible for any items you bring on the water. Dress in non-cotton layers such as synthetic materials, fleece, wool, etc. Please bring a completed
waiver and review the
equipment list. Classes will begin promptly, so plan to arrive early.
Boat Capacity & Size:
Kayaks are more unstable when individuals are at or near the capacity of the equipment. Boats/equipment used for this facility/program can accommodate a capacity up to 250 pounds. Accommodations up to 300 pounds can be coordinated with at least 72 business hours notice prior to the program: 216-341-1704.
