William A. Stinchcomb Circle ($10,000 and above)
William A. Stinchcomb, the father of Cleveland Metroparks, envisioned the “Emerald Necklace” more than a century ago. A Cleveland city engineer, he pioneered the idea of a park district in the early 1900’s that became a model throughout the state of Ohio. Stinchcomb served as the first director of The Park District and retired after 36 years. The Stinchcomb Memorial was built in 1959 and is situated at the northern end of Rocky River Reservation, overlooking the first parcel of park land. The Memorial was restored in 2017 as part of Cleveland Metroparks Centennial Celebration and now includes a loop trail and open play field.
The William A. Stinchcomb Circle honors his extraordinary vision and recognizes Cleveland Metroparks supporters who make a cumulative annual gift of $10,000 and above.
