Donor: The Preisendorf Family
Tree Species: Celebration Maple
Cleveland Metroparks gratefully acknowledges the family of Al Preisendorf for contributing to the Legacy Fund. This gift supports reforestation in Cleveland Metroparks now and for the future.
This tree was planted in the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation to honor husband/father/father-in-law, Al Preisendorf, and the town where he enjoyed living for 30 years.
Al grew up on E. 49
th Street in Cuyahoga Heights, where the entrance to Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation is located. He played in the playground next to the park entrance. He graduated from Cuyahoga Heights High School, and retired after 32 years as a shift manager from the Southerly Plant in Cuyahoga Heights.
Al was devoted to his family. Friends and family appreciated his sense of humor, and Al enjoyed his jokes as much as we all did. He was also a lifelong learner, incessantly curious about history and current events.
Al had wonderful childhood memories of playing in the woods, and walking with his mother through the park to his grandmother’s house. He also enjoyed hours of walking on and near the train trestle, often with his dogs. It felt important to plant his tree in view of the train trestle.
Al's family is grateful to be able to sit with the tree and appreciate Al now and for years to come.
A Celebration Maple has been planted in Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation, near CanalWay Center, in memory of Al Preisendorf.
