Donor: Family and Friends of Kathy Suchocki
Tree Species: Wildfire Black Gum
The family of Kathleen Suchocki thank their extended family and friends who made heartfelt donations to Cleveland Metroparks in Kathy’s memory, with a special note of appreciation to her sister and brother-in-law, Rosie and Ed Dooner. With their generosity, a beautiful Wildfire Black Gum was planted in West Creek Reservation adjacent to the Keystone Shelter in her memory. They would not be surprised if the birds she loved watching and feeding at her own home find their way to this beautiful tree.
Cleveland Metroparks have long played an important role in the lives of the Suchocki family. Kathy and her loved ones made countless memories during annual trips to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, summers spent swimming in Lake Erie at Edgewater Park and family picnics at numerous park reservations. They connected with nature during relaxing hikes and visits to nature centers throughout the Park District. Together they also enjoyed spending time with friends from Scouting and their church choir during group picnics. And when challenged with the stresses of modern life, the peace and calm of a hike through nature was often an important part of the recovery process.
The location of Kathy’s Legacy Tree marks the site of her final hike in West Creek Reservation – the trail across from the Keystone Shelter. The family hopes those who knew Kathy will visit the site and reflect on the good times shared with her.
