Donor: The Children of Kelly Suren
Tree Species: Burr Oak
Kelly's love of the outdoors started at an early age when she attended baseball games with her grandfather and spent her high school summers working at neighborhood playgrounds supervising activities. She was also an avid golfer for over 65 years, an activity she shared with her husband Bob and her sons.
Kelly loved Cleveland Metroparks and for more than 20 years she walked almost every Saturday morning with her daughters at one of 10 favorite Reservations that included Bedford, Big Creek, Brecksville, Hinckley, Mill Stream Run, Ohio & Erie Canal, North Chagrin, Rocky River, South Chagrin, and West Creek which was closest to her home. Kelly even enjoyed walking in the West Creek area for several years before it was part of Cleveland Metroparks. In addition to her Saturday walks, Kelly was a member of the Cleveland Hiking Club for several years, an organization whose members frequently walk in Cleveland Metroparks.
Kelly loved meeting and talking with people as she walked. A tree in Kelly’s memory will be planted in fall 2021 near the Monarch Bluff Picnic Area and Watershed Stewardship Center in West Creek Reservation – two places with lots of people. If you are ever at West Creek and feel an urge to strike up a conversation with a stranger, you are probably standing near Kelly’s tree.
