Parkrun
Cleveland Metroparks hosts
parkrun, a weekly 5K walk/run, at Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation. Completely staffed by volunteers, parkrun is free for runners, walkers, families, and even their family dog to participate in. Parkrun takes place every Saturday from 8:30 AM - 10 AM and volunteers are able to sign up as often as they’d like. Every parkrun is followed by an optional participant social at CanalWay Center.
Qualifications:
- Ability to stand or walk for 1.5 hours outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Training: new volunteers will attend a training shift to receive additional information about the different volunteer positions
Responsibilities vary based on position but may include:
- Check the course path to ensure safe conditions for participants
- Serve as a course marshal to direct participants
- Use a timing device to record finish times of participants
- Hand out tokens to all participants after they cross the finish line
- Use a device to scan a race participant’s barcode so they receive results
- Walk at the back of the group of participants for safety
