Cleveland Metroparks is proposing the replacement of the Old Highland Bridge in Euclid Creek Reservation and is seeking comments the public may have regarding, but not limited to the effects of the project on local residents, air quality, proposed temporary trail closure/detour, etc. The project will include the removal and replacement of the entire structure, which will place the bridge out of commission through the anticipated end of construction in Spring 2027. See the following map for the identified pedestrian detour route in effect through construction.
More detailed information is available in this news release. Please submit any comments regarding the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the proposed project using the comment form below:
This project includes the demolition of the existing bridge and installation of a new bridge structure along the historic alignment of Highland Rd (now referred to as "Old Highland Rd") over Euclid Creek in the Euclid Creek Reservation. The project also includes roadway work, a multi-use path, and scour protection. The existing structure was built in 1938 by the Work Progress Administration (WPA), and has been closed since 2020 due to its condition.
The Old Highland Bridge is a critical point of connection from the Georgetown Condominiums and uphill Euclid and western Richmond Heights neighborhoods into the reservation. This bridge replacement will bolster that connection by providing improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities. In addition, the bridge will enable better access to the Upper Highland Picnic Area.
