Solon to Chagrin Falls Trail
Project Updates
(October 2024) The contractor is continuing with the progress of the trail. Construction of the three bridges along the trail are making great progress with completion of the abutments. The bridge beams will be installed in the coming weeks following closely behind with decking.
As the continued reminder, for the safety of the public, access to the trail is strictly prohibited for the duration of the project.
About
This project will create a new accessible 10’ wide paved all purpose trail that will ultimately connect to the existing Cleveland Metroparks trail at Chagrin River Road that runs northeast to Chagrin Falls using an entirely off road route. The new trail will begin at SOM Center Road and will run along the former Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad Company corridor, which is owned by the City of Solon, to the city boundary near the Deer Run cul-de-sac. The trail will include a trailhead off SOM Center Road and an enhanced bicycle and pedestrian crossing at Liberty Road. The project is funded by state grants of nearly $1.2 million along with funding from the City of Solon. The trail will be owned by the City of Solon and managed by Cleveland Metroparks.
As a separate phase, Cleveland Metroparks has committed to complete the remaining 1500’ section from the Solon city boundary to Chagrin River Road within one year of completion of the Solon phase. This trail section will be built entirely on land already owned by Cleveland Metroparks and will complete the overall Solon to Chagrin Falls project.
