If you asked friends and family to describe Sherri, you’d hear repeating themes: “generous,” “big-hearted,” “thoughtful,” “funny,” “classy,” “kind,” and “loving.” She was the big personality that filled the room with laughter, and her zest for life was especially evident in the way she showed her love for those she cared about. She gave all of herself to her family and friends – almost to a fault. Those of us who were lucky enough to know her can all say our lives were changed for the better, gaining a greater understanding of what it means to love our families and what it means to be a friend.
Born October 19, 1968, Sherri was the daughter of parents Dave and Kay Moore. Dave and Kay were lifetime residents of Brook Park, where Sherri spent her formative years, graduating from Midpark High School in 1987. Over the next decade, she began her career and started a family.
Tragically, at the age of 27, Sherri lost her mother. This loss affected her deeply, giving her an acute understanding that life is short, and time is not guaranteed. From that moment on, she devoted herself to taking care of her father, along with her young family. In every part of her life, she made dear friends and made sure to demonstrate her love for her family and friends through the thoughtfulness and generosity she is remembered for.
Sherri and her father grew even closer in the years following her mother’s passing. She considered him her biggest cheerleader. Undoubtedly, Sherri’s kindhearted nature stemmed in part from her father.
Dave was known for being a gentle soul, friend to all that met him, and an amazing father and grandfather. In retirement, his favorite pastimes included spending time outdoors. He would often spend many hours in the East Branch of the Rocky River Reservation, simply enjoying the river and wildlife. He typically would park his car next to the river and enjoy a late lunch or early dinner with his companion Dawn.
Dave passed away January 26, 2020 at the age of 83. In memory of her father, Sherri wanted to dedicate a Legacy Tree in the Rocky River Reservation where he had loved to spend his time. However, just weeks after her father’s passing, the COVID-19 pandemic upended life. With adjusting to the chaos of the pandemic, starting a new position at work, and continuing to take care of her family and manage their lives, the Legacy Tree for her father slipped to the back burner.
Then, sadly, in early September 2020, Sherri was diagnosed with lung cancer. Her fate was such that tragedy seemed to repeat itself; like her mother, God called upon her to rest in his arms at an untimely age, leaving behind a daughter in her late 20s and a son soon to be graduating high school.
Sherri fought an incredibly difficult battle for four and half months, passing away January 25, 2021, one day shy of the anniversary of her father’s death. She was unable to complete her project – the Legacy Tree for her father.
It is with a sense of great honor and privilege that her friends and colleagues came together to complete the dedication of a Legacy Tree not only for Mr. Moore, but for Sherri. Though with an ache in our hearts, we will remember Sherri's kindness, warm smile, and love in the days to come. She will be dearly missed by all.
Sherri's memory lives on in her husband Dan; her daughter Brooke (Mitch) Schwartz and son Stone; sisters-in-law Linda M. (Bruce) Skibo and Mary (Mark) Miller; her cat Ricky and dog Ralphie; and so many dear friends and family members.
Heaven has gained two angels.
Those of us that knew them were blessed.
