Ten Places to Unplug in Cleveland Metroparks

 

A.B. Williams Woods, North Chagrin Reservation     

Walk among giant 300-400 year old trees in this old-growth beech-maple forest. Studied by Cleveland Metroparks first naturalist, Arthur B. Williams, this serene forest offers beautiful lookouts and peaceful, deep-woods vibes.

Euclid Beach Pier, Euclid Creek Reservation  

Framed with custom wrought iron banners celebrating the reservation's early history as an amusement park, the Euclid Beach Pier is a truly beautiful gem on the lake. Early mornings and evenings offer the best chance for a quiet visit.

Hinckley Lake, Hinckley Reservation    
Hinckley Lake provides the perfect backdrop for hiking, walking, sitting, fishing, and paddling. It is a peaceful escape any day of the year with a 3.1-mile natural surface trail surrounding the lake and several docks along the way.

Deer Lick Cave, Brecksville Reservation          

Take the stairs down to a small waterfall and scenic creek that meanders it's way to Deer Lick Cave, a beautiful sandstone overhang. Or enjoy the view from a bench overlooking the area, a short walk from the parking lot without the stairs.

All Purpose Trails, Acacia Reservation

There's plenty to see in this unique habitat known for its nesting bluebirds and pretty ponds. Miles of paved walking trails offer walkers, runners, and cyclists the perfect place to exercise and decompress.

Fort Hill Loop, Rocky River Reservation         

Unplug and enjoy the views from 90 feet above the Rocky River.  While there, learn more about the Fort Hill Earthworks, a landmark on the Register of National Historic Places, and explore the surrounding trails.

Lagoon Trail, Rocky River Reservation

With a newly renovated trail and boardwalk, this short hike (0.6 mile) traverses the edge of the lagoon wetland, providing opportunities to see wildlife up close. Not up for a hike? A fishing area, great for sunfish species and large mouth bass, is available.

Viaduct Park, Bedford Reservation       

It is here where energy was harnessed from Tinker's Creek to power the city streetlights at night and the gristmill by day. This paved trail allows a peaceful escape down to the creek and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Skinner's Run, West Creek Reservation           

Enter Skinner's Run Trailhead at Dentzler Road. Hike downhill into a wooded floodplain and cross several quaint bridges over West Creek.  This trail offers a fine morning getaway for spring birding.
